Fan Stories: Voices From The Stands

Fan Stories: Voices From The Stands

Every few months we ask our community to send in their stories — how they became fans, the traditions they've built, the moments that stuck with them. Here are a few of our favorites from this round.

The Grandmother Who Never Missed a Season

One fan wrote in about her grandmother, who's held the same seats since before she was born and has never missed a home opener in over thirty years — sun, snow, or otherwise. "She says the day she stops going is the day she's officially old. She's 78. She's not stopping anytime soon." Her one concession to age: she finally swapped her old jacket for the Captain's Flight Jacket after her granddaughter insisted she stop freezing through the fourth quarter.

The Rivalry That Became a Friendship

Another story came from a fan whose closest friend at work roots for a division rival. What started as trash talk over the office coffee machine turned into a genuine friendship built entirely around Sunday debates, a running bet neither of them has ever actually cashed in on, and a tailgate that now somehow includes both fan bases every single week.

The First Game After

We got a story from a fan who took his son to his first game the year after losing his own father — the same seats his dad used to sit in, purchased specifically so his son could have the same view growing up. "It wasn't about the score that day. It was about being there, in that exact spot, with him next to me."

The Long-Distance Fan

Not every fan gets to be in the building every week. One story came from someone who moved across the country for work and built an entire ritual around watching from a local bar that happens to be the unofficial gathering spot for transplanted fans — strangers who became a second tailgate crew, three time zones away from home.

The Proposal in the Parking Lot

We couldn't leave this one out — a fan proposed to his now-wife in the exact tailgate spot where they had their first date, surrounded by the same friend group that's been tailgating there for a decade. "She said yes before I even finished the sentence. The whole lot heard about it before we made it inside." He'd had a Signature Leather Wallet custom-fitted to hide the ring box for three weeks leading up to it.
